Chrysler Platform Sharing may Lead to Rear-Wheel-Drive Dodge Models

It is common knowledge at this point that the Chrysler Group is owned by the Italian automaker, FIAT. When this first happened we were all a little concerned about the future of our brands here at Bennett Chrysler Dodge Jeep, but it turned out to have some great consequences. Vehicles like the new 2013 Dodge Dart are being built with the same platform used to build several different FIAT models. This type of platform sharing opens the door of all sorts of technological innovations on the part of Chrysler, including rear-wheel drive.

Currently, FIAT platforms are even being used to create several Alfa Romeo models with rear-wheel-drive. Now that this technology is readily available it is very easy to see it being applied to other new Dodge vehicles.

It is easy to imagine a car like the Dodge Challenger being outfitted with this type of powertrain. This classic American muscle car would be able really flaunt its sporty side. The engine would be aligned length-wise and it would provide a better overall driving dynamic.

Platform sharing has even been discussed with the Jeep Brand for the purpose of creating a wrangler-like mini off-roader. Of course none of this has been confirmed by officials yet, but you can be sure to get all the latest Chrysler Group news by following our blog. To get your hands on a new or used Dodge model today, just stop by our showroom and ask about taking a test drive. Bennett Chrylser Dodge Jeep is located at 1580 East King Ave Kingsland, GA 31548.
